Artistic Creation, Solidarity and Resistance
During the dark years of the dictatorship (1967-1974), posters were a vital medium for the dissemination of the ideals of Democracy and Freedom as well as the expression of solidarity to the Greek people. Besides being part of the palimpsest of anti-dictatorship actions both in Greece and abroad, the visual representation of the anti-dictatorship message carries its own meaning and significance in its use of colours, patterns, symbols, fonts, and design techniques. The selected posters which are presented here come from different countries and different moments in the dictatorship period, highlighting the dynamic nature of the colourful artistic expression that emerged as an answer and a counterweight to the darkness of the dictatorial regime.
